Leaves: Basal leaves sword-shaped.

الأزهار

Inflorescence & flowers: One or two flowers per spathe, white and only faintly scented. Spathe 4–5 cm, broadly oblong and blunt, pale green and herbaceous except for its papery tip. Perianth tube about 2 cm. Outer tepals oblong and wedge-shaped, about 7–8 × 4 cm, pure white or slightly bluish, with a bright yellow basal beard. Inner tepals similar in size and colour but wholly glabrous. Style branches with toothed lobes. Mouterde also records a cultivated blue-violet form under var. madonna.

Lebanese & Syrian distribution: Mouterde gives no named locality in the Iris albicans account; he records cultivation and occasional escapes in the area covered by the flora.

Recorded locations: Kfertay.

Native range: Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Introduced into: Alabama, Arkansas, Baleares, Bulgaria, Canary Is., Cape Verde, Cyprus, East Aegean Is., France, Italy, Kriti, Lebanon-Syria, Morocco, NW. Balkan Pen., Palestine, Portugal, Romania, Sardegna, Sicilia, Spain, Türkiye and West Himalaya.
