Morphology: Annual herb, often reaching 50–60 cm. Mouterde describes the stems as frequently multiple, more branched than those of his R. marginatus var. trachycarpus, and often glabrescent or glabrous, as are the leaves. Leaves generally deeply divided from the base of the plant into segments that are themselves repeatedly cut into narrow lobes. Flowers somewhat larger than in the preceding taxon in Mouterde’s account. Achenes have conspicuously projecting tubercles, a grooved margin and a short, incurved beak. Mouterde distinguishes this taxon from his R. cornutus by the grooved achene margin and notes its more consistent association with the immediate vicinity of water.
Habitat and elevation: Ditches and waterlogged ground, often immediately beside water. Mouterde specifies no numerical elevation range for this taxon.
